Not a happy bit of news to get after a day traveling away from Bloomington. His time with the Indiana University football program was brief, but he has been an inspirational leader who respected players, coaches, fans and the community at large. He will be missed.

Indiana football coach Hoeppner dies of complications from brain tumor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Terry Hoeppner won nine games as
Indiana’s coach, but he will always be remembered as the program’s rock.

The man hired to revive Indiana’s foundering football program in
2004 — and had a 3-ton limestone boulder placed in the north end
zone of Memorial Stadium — died of complications of a brain tumor
Tuesday morning at Bloomington Hospital with his family at his
side. He was 59.

BORN: Aug. 19, 1947
RECORD: 57-39; 48-25 at Miami (Ohio) and 9-14 at Indiana.
BOWLS: 1-1 with Miami (Ohio)
NOTABLE: Indiana’s five wins in 2006 were its most since 2001.
